Golden Retrievers are a large, active breed — adults typically land between 55 and 75 pounds. They need daily exercise, regular grooming (that coat sheds, a lot, twice a year), and they don't do well left alone for long stretches. If you're in a smaller apartment without easy access to a park, it's still workable, but be honest with yourself about your daily routine before you commit.

Golden Retrievers are a "Sporting" breed group dog — bred originally to retrieve waterfowl. That heritage shows up as a strong drive to fetch, carry things in their mouth, and swim. A long line and a tennis ball go a long way.
What to check before you buy
- Vaccination and deworming status. A responsible breeder can tell you exactly what's been done and when, with documentation. If a seller is vague about this, that's a red flag.
